Part Two: SEE the Patterns...HEAR the Words.
What Does Christian Discipleship Look like in the Autonomous Technology era: See, Judge, & Act?
We "hear" the words of Joseph Cardinal Cardijn. We need to understand the patterns and apply them to our current situations in life.
"When we remind ourselves that man has existed for 10,000 years, the modern working class seems something comparatively new, for it has lived only for 150 years. It is in its infancy. The invention of the steam engine produced it, just as it gave the world an industrial and economic revolution and a revolution in the whole method of work.
This revolution is so important from the social, religious, and human point of view and has had such consequences that we cannot yet entirely foresee its scope and effects." ~ Joseph Cardinal Cardijn 1948 to JOC leaders at Godinne, Belgium.
This statement could easily be said today as we enter the autonomous revolution of emerging technology.
When Cardijn addressed the ills of how society was sitting by and letting workers be taken advantage of, we see today that the rise of Artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies in and of themselves is a good thing. It is up to us, all the people, to make sure this new technology does not become a means of exploiting the working class, professionals, and educators. Will a new bourgeoisie be developed to control all workers and reduce their worth to modern slavery?
Joseph Cardijn said at the time, "Then the hour of the working class will be the hour of purpose, of true emancipation, of the return of the working class to Christ."
Think about the statement and consider today and the rise of autonomous technology. Think of physical robotics, software robots, and independent devices replacing activities once performed by humans or dramatically reducing the work effort humans used to perform to complete various job functions.
"Return of the working class to Christ."
This statement by Cardijn is all about understanding who we are as human beings and the difference it makes in being human. Technology should free humans to seek other ventures, be creative, and be more in service to other humans. Technology, especially what we are
experiencing now with the rise of AI, will free people from much of the routine aspects of work. Free humans to have more time that may not be job function related. The question is, how will we as a society address the newfound freedom?
In the Cardijn era, workers would organize for protection and unity. Cardijn said, "In origin and spirit it is a Christian movement to solve the problems with which Christians are faced, and which cannot be solved by the State and by employers alone. A movement of the working class was necessary."
The rise of autonomous technology is here and now. There is no going back; the ship has sailed. Remember today, as during the era of Cardijn, and the government will not lead. They will follow the cry of the people in large numbers. The same is true of the companies creating the technology. Do not look for them to lead. They compete with each other, and the motivation is about being a market leader.
Cardijn understood in his day, "A movement of the working class was necessary." In our day, What we need today is a movement of human beings is necessary.
You are applying the See-Judge-Act methodology to these topics. As you think about them, what angst are you starting to experience? Are you asking yourself where to start or begin? What questions should I ask?
For Starters, think about these questions:
How will CHAT GPT AND THE FUTURE OF AI change learning?
What does AI have to do with PEOPLE, PLANET, PURPOSE IN LIFE, and
PROSPERITY of all human beings?
How will AI contribute to being GREEN & sustainable in the autonomous revolution?
Can you see MEGA SHIFTS OF TRANSFORMATION in how people live on the planet with emerging AI?
What Concerns you about THE NEXT 10 YEARS - And WHAT DO YOU WANT TO KNOW TODAY about emerging technology that you are unsure about?
Do you believe HUMANITY AND EMERGING TECHNOLOGY NEED TO DEVELOP DIGITAL ETHICS in the 21st Century?
Next week we will start to dive into asking questions to come better understand the patterns using See - Judge - Act methodology so we may be able to better:
Engage in the world through our experiences and knowledge.
To be reflective about what the future may hold for us
To seek more information through theories, education, and faith teachings, examine the world and our experience again.
