Thank you, Richard. In the past, when you have recommended a book to be read, I have done so and not been disappointed. At present I am reading Halík’s Night of the Confessor. I have found myself challenged by his description of Christianity as a religion of paradox. Here is a link to a conversation between him and Fr Frank Brennan, an Australian Jesuit priest, known as “the meddling priest”: https://www.youtube.com/live/XXoccU0We8o?si=h97QrnZhX8D6DVv6 I will continue reading his books with my SJA glasses on in “conscious” mode. Again, thank you.
What I find so interesting about what Halik writes and experiences mirrors what biblical historians are discovering about the early movements, the first 250 years after Jesus and how the various groups evolved and lived their lives and what we see are religious paradoxes. On a side note what is making the discoveries of the early movements visible to us to better understand what was really happening and it is because of the use of AI as a tool in the research. Especially in these areas of:
Myth ~ Metaphor ~ Parable
Translation ~ Transliteration
Sitz im Leben
Speaking of Sitz im Leben, think about that in regards to Halik, and how culture shapes and molds our persona.
Thinking about religious paradoxes, and the influence of and shaping and molding of culture in our religious thinking through the ages, here is a 30 min or so video on what I would call religious paradoxes ...Oliver is a born and raised German, teaches in Postdam is on various Vatican commissions and notice how well his english is in giving the speech LOL. I could only wish that my German was that fluent.
